Marker balls are required to be provided in aviation zones in any span where the low point of the shield wire (OPGW/ OHGW) catenary is above 90 m AGL (Above Ground Level), which is equivalent to the low point of bottom conductor catenary at approximately 63 m AGL. Marker balls shall be placed on the top OHGW and OPGW, for aircraft warning.

 1) Marker balls are required to be provided in aviation zones in any span where the low point of the shield wire (OPGW/ OHGW) catenary is above 90 m AGL (Above Ground Level), which is equivalent to the low point of bottom conductor catenary at approximately 63 m AGL. Marker balls shall be placed on the top OHGW and OPGW, for aircraft warning.

2) Marker Balls shall be evenly spaced along the OHGW/ OPGW, at a maximum of 60m intervals.
3) Unlighted Marker Balls shall alternate on OHGW and OPGW with aviation colors: Orange, White, and Red, with aviation Orange markers always positioned at each end.
4) If less than four (4) marker balls (lighted or unlighted) are on the OHGW/ OPGW, all marker balls shall be aviation Orange.
5) Crossings with multiple transmission lines require additional marker balls when the outside lines on the adjacent structure are more than 60 m from the center of the primary structure.
6) The Marker balls shall be EHV (Extra High Voltage) qualified, with a special coating to reduce corona effects that can degrade or discolor a standard marker ball, or even lead to burning or melting.
7) The Marker Balls shall use spiral formed armor rods to securely attach to the OHGW/ OPGW.
− These spiral formed armor rods shall extend outward from the marker and actually reinforce and protect the OHGW/ OPHW at the point of attachment.
− These spiral formed armor rods shall be completely slip-proof, and also prevent damage to the OHGW / OPGW, often associated with clamps that dig into the OHGW /OPGW.
− The spiral formed armor rods shall be matched at the time of order to the specific size, type, and diameter of the OHGW/OPGW.

Night Marking Red Obstruction Light System for Transmission Tower

Overhead Wire Marker Fiberglass Aircraft Warning Sphere Day Marking Aerial Marker Balls for High Voltage Power Lines

ICAO compliant MIOL red flashing solar obstruction lights are an integrated solution including a high-efficiency LED light source, solar panels and battery. In remote areas, where 110V or 220V is not available except at extremely high cost, solar-powered FAA & ICAO obstruction lights have become the preferred and often necessary solution for marking utility transmission towers, telecom towers, wind farm testing, airports, and other tall structures. Tapping into solar energy is simpler and greener, saves money, and keeps lights off the grid. The system is designed as a compact, all-in-one solar system, completely self contained for easy installation. The high efficiency, compact design provides end users with a lightweight, maintenance free power solution, requiring minimal surface area for installation. The system is ideal for remote airstrips where hard-wired infrastructure is unavailable.
