Aircraft Navigation (Obstruction Aids)


Types and Uses
The type and arrangement of all aircraft navigation (obstruction aids) i.e. aircraft warning lights (solar or LV powered), solar arrays, batteries and aircraft warning spheres shall be approved by the 
Employer.
Reference is made to Annex 15-1 for the detailed specific requirements.

Design
All aircraft navigation (obstruction aids) shall be so designed as to:
(a) Withstand the mechanical loads relevant to the installation-service-maintenance conditions and 
environmental effects;
(b) Minimize the number of parts and the possibility of incorrect assembly and installation;
(c) Ensure that individual components are secured against becoming loose in service; all threaded 
fasteners shall be locked;
(d) Utilize materials which have sufficient strength, ductility and environmental resistance to 
withstand the static dynamic loading;
(e) Avoid damaging the earthwire under all service conditions;
(f) Comply with the requirements of ICAO Aerodromes Annex 14 Volume 1 Aerodrome Design and 
Operation and Aerodrome Design Manual Part 4 unless stated to the contrary

Aviation obstruction marking sphere is designed to provide daytime visual warning or nighttime visual warning if comes with reflective tape, for electricity transmission line and overhead wire for aircraft pilots, especially cross river high voltage transmission lines. Building Light-Building Obstruction Light/Rooftop Heliport Lighting

Buildings lighting Obstruction lighting solutions to be set at the top of buildings, and heliport lights, to be set around the runway in order to guide helicopters pilots. Lighting of buildings with heliports If the building has an elevated heliport, that is to say located on a raised structure on land, lighting marks have to be set around the runways to guide the pilots during take-off and landing. In the case of these elevated heliports, the Final Approach and Take-Off areas (FATO), and the Touchdown and Lift-Off areas (TLOF) are coincidental: only the TLOF runway matters. As a matter of facts, TLOF area should be lighted with TLOF perimeter lights: fixed omnidirectional green lights, inside the floor, or not higher than 25cm, uniformly spaced from 3 meters maximum. A windcone is a carefully designed fabric cone that is mounted on a metal frame. This metal frame is attached to a vertical pole via a swivel that allows the fabric cone to rotate freely. The fabric cone must be designed to provide relative wind speed indication. A fully extended windsock indicates a wind speed in excess of 15 knots. An illuminated windcone must be powered in some manner. Common methods are with 120VAC/240VAC or 6.6Amp circuitry. Recent advances in both LED and solar power technology have allowed for the creation of reliable and compliant solar powered LED windsocks. Wind Direction Indicators or wind cones provide visual surface wind direction and velocity information to pilots in flight or on the ground at airport and heliports.
